5S

Workplace practices most often used to make frequently used tools, supplies and equipment visible and within reach, and a system to maintain that order. The S's represent five Japanese words, but similar English words are often used for ease of memory. Some companies add a sixth S to represent Safety.

Seiri, or Sort: Elimination of unneeded items.
